Terry Seamon and I wrote these articles in response to a growing demand for people to support each other while in job search in today's economy.
Are you a member of a Job Search Support Group? Have you formed one this year? You may want to check out the articles for suggestions.
Consider sharing your stories here. If you don't have time to write, give me a call and I'll help you write your story.
What difference has it made for you to be in a support group during these times?
Margaret Mead's quote comes to mind. "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

Restoring My Senses
by Janice Lee Juvrud & Terrence Seamon
If your energy, enthusiasm, resilience has ever waned as you travel down the networking trail I have good news for you! There are two things you can do...they are simple and almost free.
Go for a walk
Grow a garden
Recently I listened to an interview with Vigen Guroian, Armenian Orthodox theologian, who spoke of "restoring the senses". He offered basic, fundamental wisdom. His message landed on me in a very useful way. Maybe there is something here for you as well.
In the rush of tending to my daily responsibilities I tend to overlook or forget to take strength, guidance from the natural world around me. As I devote most of my time to networking, re-writing my resume 25 times or has it been 250 times, :-) writing the most attention-getting cover letters, refining my interview skills, composing thank you letters that, God willing, will get me the job (well, you get the idea) Guroian brought me back to my senses. How? I think you'll love this...it's so easy! He says.......
Go for a walk. Now I leave the iPod and the pedometer at home and walk to see the sky, the earth, water, trees, feel the breeze, listen to all the nature that surrounds me and really take it in. I find this is a good time to practice deep breathing....very restorative.
Grow a garden. Honestly, a garden sound like too much for me right now. I'm going to plant a few bushes in my yard and see if I can nurture them to blossom. I believe it's the ritual, the rhythm of encouraging life and beauty that is grounding and centering.
This Spring season invites me to restore my senses and renews my energy for all that I do including my job search. Send your stories of restoring your senses and I'll include them in upcoming articles...better yet, post your stories here! This is a wonderful way to support each other!
Looking Forward!
